Volunteers for D-Day At 80 Events Posted: 31 March 2024

Volunteers needed! If you can help volunteer before, during or after the D-Day events on 6 and 9 June we would love to hear from you. We're looking for event marshalls and help to set-up and clear-up before, during and after both events.

D-Day Stalls

D-Day At 80 Event - Stalls Available Posted: 29 March 2024

Stall places are available for £10 at the D-Day Event to be held on the Village Green on Sunday, 9 June from 12 - 4pm. Bring your own table-top, chairs and pop-up gazebo.

D-Day 2024 events at Walbottle

D-DAY Anniversary Events 2024 Updated: 12 March 2024

June 6th 2024 marks the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings in Normandy and will be commemorated and celebrated across the country.

We will be holding two events in Walbottle Village at the village institute and on the green, all are welcome. We will be commemorating and celebrating the heroic actions undertaken by British and ally troops in the air, on land and at sea during D-Day.

COMMEMORATION EVENT • Thursday 6 June, 8pm – 10pm

All are welcome and we look forward to seeing you. The latest schedule of events for Thursday evening is:

  • 8:00PM: Welcome address
  • 8:05PM: Proclamation
  • 8:15PM: Fish & Chips, tea and coffee
  • 8:30PM: Piper
  • 8:55PM: Walbottle Choir, five songs.
  • 9:15PM: International Tribute and beacon lighting, synchronised with national and Hadrian’s Wall beacon lighting
  • Piper and close

The date is also National Fish & Chips Day and we will be providing forty subsidised fish and chip suppers at the village institute for those who purchase vouchers in advance for £2. If you would like a fish and chips voucher click here to complete the online order form.

CELEBRATION EVENT • Sunday 9th June, 12.00pm – 4:30pm

The family event on Sunday will include a marquee, photo booth with World War II props, a display of maps and audio recordings, food and drinks, face painting, kids activities and more…

The schedule of events for Sunday afternoon are:

  • 12:00PM: Event starts
  • 1:00PM: Tea, coffee and refreshments from Walbotl Coffee House
  • 2:00PM: Walbottle Choir, Frosty’s Fish and Chips van
  • 3:00PM: Childrens Parade and Prizes
  • 3:30PM: Raffle prize draw
  • 3:50PM: Beacon lighting
  • 4:00PM: Close

Everyone is welcome to both events and we look forward to seeing you.

Meeting every Monday excluding bank holidays in the Village Institute at 7:30pm for an hour. £2 per session.

Printing costs are quite an expense for the Association. Each print run costs about £120 and we are looking at ways we can cut down on printing costs while also doign our bit for the environment. If you would like to receive an electronic copy by email or are happy to view the Newsletter on this website then please contact us and we will confirm your email address and remove you from the hardcopy delivery.

We would also like to encourage residents to contact the WVT&RA with their stories, articles or news about Walbottle Village life, past and present, which we can share with the community in our newsletter and on this website. Please contact us by email or completing the form on the contact page.
